If you have a busy office with hard floors that you want to protect or easily maneuver across, chair mats for hard floors are likely a welcome accessory. A chair mat can add a touch of style that spruces up an office or cubicle. Chair mats can also be effective in enhancing safety when nonslip designs are used. With a large selection of chair and floor mats, it's easy to find the right option for any workspace, home office, or place of business. Use and Function Before buying a chair mat for hard floors, consider what the primary purpose of the mat will be. Shining hardwood floors remain safe under protective chair mats, and many options help safeguard tiles, marble and other sensitive surfaces. For slippery floors, choosing a mat with a strong grip can help keep it in place and prevent unwanted sliding. If your space is carpeted, for a better fit, consider incorporating chair mats for carpets rather than the hard floor options. Material Different locations and applications call for a variety of material choices. Cubicles and offices that see frequent use with rolling chairs can benefit from tough chair mats with durable construction that stands up to wear and tear and can be easily cleaned. In areas where less demanding use is the norm, choose a lightweight material that is sufficient for stationary chairs. Style and Design Just because a chair mat is a functional object doesn't mean it shouldn't also add a touch of style to a work area. Choose from bold prints and designs that mimic fashionable rugs, and a variety of striking textures that add flair and personality to almost any work space. When an unobtrusive design is needed, clear finishes, subtle colors and wood-like prints blend easily with the surrounding décor. + Read more - Read less

First, embedded dirt and debris must be routinely removed and cleaned by vacuuming! Second, heavy moisture, as typically used for cleaning hard surface floors, becomes absorbed by felt protectors leaving the felt pads hard and coarse when dry. This coarse texture can scratch a hard surface floor. To avoid replacing felt furniture pads that become crusty due to moisture, take an extra step after vacuuming and briskly brush the pads with a small wire brush to soften the texture of the felt. These simple steps will add months of life to felt furniture pads before they require replacement.

Floor Glides: Protect Your Investments Smudges, scratches, and permanent damage are the last thing you want to see on your hard-wood or vinyl floors or even carpeting. Utilizing durable furniture and chair glides or caps will help protect your beautiful and expensive flooring. Glides for table or chair feet are a must when your furniture is made of metal. Moving metal furniture legs over and over can cut into your flooring and leave unsightly scratches or gashes. They can even tear into carpeting. Repairing damaged floors can be time consuming and expensive. You can avoid the damage by ensuring your furniture and chairs are capped with quality floor glides. Felt furniture pads are great for a smooth, soft finish that protects booth wood flooring and wood furniture. Nylon or plastic glides work well with tile flooring. If you're unsure of what type of furniture pads will be the best to protect both your flooring and furniture, contact us! We can help you select the right type of material and size for your furniture's needs.

I live in a house full of wood floors (engineered hardwood). If the floors are kept clean and the wheels of the chair also are kept clean, every little damage will ever happen to your floors. If your floors are perfectly smooth and any imperfection will bother you, I do recommend either a low pile or woven rug under the desk and chair. I say this, because if some sand or small rock gets between the chair caster and the floor it will mark it. You can always fill the small imperfection but a rug is a small insurance plan for that area of floor.

This article expresses my position on proper adequate floor protector pads for hard surface flooring and the required attention they need for optimal performance. I believe these pictures included clearly tell the story. Felt is the best and only choice material for minimizing the risk of damage to a hard surface floor by movable furniture and equipment. Keep in mind that all felt pads are NOT created equal. Commercial use needs heavy-duty felt protector pads as discussed in my previous blog post series on Scratches, Gouges and Scrapes, Part 2-Preventive Measures.

This assorted pack of felt pads are the best value we have found. Amazon.com - Assorted Heavy Duty Felt Pads - 113 Pcs Heavy duty, variety of sizes, plus some extra sheets you can cut to whatever size you need. They have worked really well for us and we have no issues with them falling off at all! Much better than anything I have tried or I remember my parents trying. Many other felt dots we have found "crush" under heavy weight. We have a solid wood bar credenza with a solid wood cabinet mounted on top and these felt pads have not crushed yet (if you lay your head down on the floor and look at the legs, you can see that the dot is still in contact with the ground while the outer edges of the leg are not).
